BackStory: Behind the Scenes of Christmas

Backstoryblog

Christmas and Star Wars

Remember the original Star Wars trilogy? We saw it, we loved it, we thought it was over. But then George Lucas told us there was more – not a sequel, but a prequel. So he produced a new trilogy to tell the back-story to the Star Wars saga.

Christmas is a lot like that. We have heard the Christmas Story, we love it, we think that’s all there is. But if you read the Bible closely, there’s an entire back-story that we often miss. That’s why this year our senior pastors will bring a new message series to us entitled “BackStory: Behind the Scenes of Christmas.” Here’s the lineup:

foreword 11/25
prophecy 12/2
bloodline 12/9
angels 12/16
onslaught 12/23

Come find out what’s behind the story of Christmas …

Growing Up...

Growingup

The older you get the more you realize how much your life was shaped by the things you experienced growing up. You begin to see this when you hear yourself saying the things to your spouse or kids that you used to hear your parents saying . . . the very things you promised yourself you would never ever say! This truth also applies to our faith. How we grew up “religiously” helped form our view of God and what life in relationship with Him looks like for us today.

For four weeks Paul Basden and Jim Johnson are exploring how growing up Catholic, atheist, Baptist, or Fundamentalist can be used by God to encourage you to take the next steps in your journey of faith.

Oct. 21 Growing Up Atheist

Oct. 28 Growing Up Baptist

Nov. 4 Growing Up Fundamentalist

Hope for a Miserable Marriage

Hopemmm

No one marries with the intention of becoming miserable. Yet the baggage we bring to the wedding and unpack throughout the marriage, along with our unrealistic premarital expectations and society’s lies about what gives meaning to life, keep us from seeing how God designed marriage to work. The result: far too many of us miss the fulfillment God intends for marriage.

But there’s hope.

Beginning September 2 we will start a new six-week series of messages entitled “Hope for a Miserable Marriage.” We will help you identify the critical issues that are harming your relationship, and give you the direction you need to reverse the course of your marriage. Here are the topics:

September 2: You Can’t Complete Me
September 9: There’s No Such Thing as Happily Ever After
September 16: Love Is More Than a Feeling
September 23: Help ... I’ve Fallen Our of Love
September 30: Check Your Bags
October 7: No Strings Attached?

Join us for these practical, biblical messages that can restore hope to your marriage.
