I’ve never been a horse racing fan, but I do listen to Randy Galloway on ESPN Radio. And he has bet on enough horses for ALL of us!
The one thing I do know about horse races is that the home stretch is all-important. That’s where you either win it all or lose it all. Fans know that while any horse can get off to a fast start, it takes a true champion to finish well.
In Men’s Ministry, we’re heading down the home stretch – seven weeks down, only three studies remaining. And I’m asking you to finish well.
No matter how fast you started (or how slowly, for that matter), you can make up for lost time right now. If you will clear your calendar so you can study for 30-45 minutes every week these last three weeks, and if you will make joining your group members each Wednesday or Friday a priority, you can win this race.
I don’t believe you joined Men’s Ministry Bible Study this Fall to lose. I believe you joined to win. So re-commit yourself right now to the vision that led you to sign up three months ago – to learn from God’s Word how to be the best leader possible, and to build solid Christian friendships with a group of men.
How about it? What are you going to do?
If the horseshoe fits, wear it. ;)
Paul
Dear Men,
We are now in our fourth week of Men’s Ministry Bible Study, and some great things have happened:
• You have begun friendships with a group of guys you didn’t know prior to the beginning of this study. And that’s important, because as I like to say, I don’t know many men who have too many friends!
• You have read and studied the first 17 chapters of the book of Exodus. Few Christian men take the Bible seriously enough to study it and try to hear God speak through it. You are the exception, and I’m proud of you!
• You have memorized 3 or 4 Bible verses. For most of you, that’s a brand new deal. But don’t you love it when your mind is filled with something better than what’s on ESPN?
• You are learning to become a leader – in your home, at church, at work, and in the world. God has used the example of Moses to teach you how to be the leader you were meant to be. That’s called growing into manhood.
We’re almost to the halfway point in “Extreme Leadership,” so don’t slack up. It’s like we’re entering the last two minutes of the first half in a football game – many games are won or lost during those 120 seconds. So be faithful in your reading, studying, memorizing, and attending. And God will be faithful to form you into a more mature Christ-follower and leader.
One more thing: this Fall our big emphasis throughout the church will be our GIANT STEP Capital Campaign. You have heard Jim and me talk about it during the announcement time at the weekend services, and we will tell you more about it at Men’s Ministry this week and next. But this is what we’re talking about:
• God has called us to create a regional church that will impact thousands of people in north Texas.
• We cannot do that in our current temporary location because we are landlocked.
• We need to find enough acreage to establish a life-changing church for generations to come.
• The best time to find and buy land is right now – landowners are looking for buyers!
• God has done miracles for us in the past – when he allowed us to meet in a movie theatre for 4 ½ years, and when he guided us to move into and remodel the facility we now use. He can do it again. And we expect him to!
• We will finance the land through the generous gifts of people who call PTCC home.
• Your gifts toward our future land need to be “over and above” your current giving to PTCC’s general ministry budget.
• God will reward you in many ways – including financially – as you give generously to GIANT STEP. I truly believe that, and have experienced it over and over and over.
Together we can take a giant step in becoming the church that God had in mind when two guys in their mid-40s moved down here in 2002 and by faith said YES to God’s vision for a new kind of church. If you are on board with this church, and with Jim and me, sign up for an advanced briefing meeting where you will hear more about our GIANT STEP campaign.
See you soon,
Paul Basden, Director
Men’s Ministry
